America250 at Ravinia Festival
Ravinia Festival has been an American institution since 1904; an unofficial summer home of the Midwest where artists come to share and celebrate the joy of live music. For the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence this summer, a wide range of artists, genres, and reflections in American music—from hip-hop and pop to classical and country—will be celebrated across Ravinia Festival concerts, including compositions focused on American themes that honor the history of the nation.
Chief Conductor Marin Alsop leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Carlos Simon’s Good News Mass, combining African American spirituality and classical music tradition, and dovetails to the American-heartland inspirations in Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony.
